Hickey and Kelly stated in a November 2010 interview with French music magazine Rock Hard that Type O Negative had broken up following Steele's death. Steele died on April 14, 2010, at the age of 48 some sources report the cause of death as heart failure brought on by an aortic aneurysm, while others list sepsis caused by diverticulitis. The band went platinum with 1993's Bloody Kisses, and gold with 1996's October Rust, and gained a fanbase through seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, and concert DVDs. Their lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death resulted in the nickname "the Drab Four" (in homage to the Beatles' "Fab Four" moniker). There is also a strong dark sense of humor in a lot of the bands work and this cynicism and quick wit makes them one of the more interesting bands to appear on the Metal world. Type-O-Negative has a larger appeal than you might imagine, and the music is very imaginative while the lyrics often thought provoking. The new and different inclusions make this a good purchase for existing fans, but a great thing for those that want a wide variety of what the band has done across their career. Time restrictions caused the band's biggest number "Christian Woman" to be limited to the single 3.30 minutes version, which is a shame if you ask me. Peter's voice and lyrical context will send shivers down your spine as you listen. The three unreleased tracks are good with "Stay Out Of My Dreams" and "12 Black Rainbows" having the most impact of the lot, we also are treated to a far darker version of the Black Sabbath track "Black Sabbath". "Hey Pete" is a fun re-do of the Hendrix classic but seems out of place from the faux live album that it originally appeared on.

From there the other albums receive a decent showing with the most popular tracks of October Rust appearing (Love You To Death and My Girlfriends Girlfriend) while "Cinnamon Girl" receives an almost industrial makeover. The song holds a strong resemblance to the sound of Peter's previous band Carnivore. "Unsuccessfully Coping" is the earliest track representation of the band, and of course the most raw and in your face both sonically and verbally. Joining it would be "Everything Dies" also from the amazing World Coming Down album and the better of the two tracks. Given "Misinterpretation" is dead air the time could have been better used by one of the sound effect lead-ins that the band has been known to do, but otherwise the music truly begins with "Everyone I Love Is Dead". The answer to this would be the decision to include alternate versions of the songs they had heard as well as a couple of songs that were unreleased and very simply this allowed the album to work on a number of levels.
#Type o negative the least worst of full
Based on this demographic it did not seem prudent to be issuing an album full of songs that they already had the chance was that this would remain unsold on the shelves. The legion of followers however was the type of audience that would support the shows and purchase anything that the band released. It's existence defied the conventions of a typical "hits" package as the band was never considered a hit-maker by any standards and they only received a small amount of airplay on stations catering to Heavy Rock or Metal. The 2000 release of The Least Worst Of would be an interesting collection for the existing fans of Type-O-Negative.
